This is a video report about
World Business: A couple of
years ago, with surging
demand for biofuel from
Europe and riding crude oil
prices, investors rushed to
build plants to turn palm oil
into biodiesel. But with
falling oil prices and
changing opinions towards
biofuel many of those
projects were put on hold.
To adapt, biofuel producers
now have to be a little more
creative.

Biodiesel in Canada |
|
| |
|
In Canada, biodiesel is still not a commercial fuel product. |
|
| |
|
Biodiesel is fully taxed at the same level as fossil diesel fuel, except for Ontario, which removed the provincial road tax from biodiesel. |
|
| |
|
Currently, rapeseed is the major feedstock used, while other feedstock sources such as vegetable oils, recycled frying oils and other animal fats are also used for biodiesel production. |
|
| |
|
Currently, the German standard DIN 51606 FAME and the US ASTM 6751-02 FAME remain the orientation standards for biodiesel, before the development of a Canadian General Standards Board specification for Biodiesel fuels. |
