demand for biofuel from
Europe and riding crude oil
prices, investors rushed to
build plants to turn palm oil
into biodiesel. But with
falling oil prices and
changing opinions towards
biofuel many of those
projects were put on hold.
To adapt, biofuel producers
now have to be a little more
creative.

Since the state aid program aimed to aid rural development in addition to producing a "green" fuel came into picture in the early 1990s, the Government is still subsidising RME producers CZK 9,500 per tonnes of RME in a 31% blend. However, the program is limited to 100,000 tonnes per annum. In addition, the Biodiesel portion of the 31% RME blends are also exempt from the national diesel tax, i.e., CZK 9.95 per litre. |

Currently, there are more than 200 Biodisel stations nationwide, which remains the main distribution of biodiesel. |
