Over the past years, the use of energy has grown tremendously. By year 2030, with the world population expected to reach 8 billion people, demand for energy is forecasted to grow by 50%, of which 80% of the growth will be in developing countries.

Our dependence on fossil fuel as a source of energy, has led to the increasing depletion of these natural resources. While oil and gas remain as the predominant forms of energy supply, the utilisation of renewable fuels, such as biodiesel, becomes more important.
