This is a video report about

World Business: A couple of
years ago, with surging
demand for biofuel from
Europe and riding crude oil
prices, investors rushed to
build plants to turn palm oil
into biodiesel. But with
falling oil prices and
changing opinions towards
biofuel many of those
projects were put on hold.
To adapt, biofuel producers
now have to be a little more
creative.

Hovid's subsidiary, Carotech gets Malaysian government award

author : BioSpectrum Date :19 March 2009

Singapore, Mar 18, 2009: Malaysian pharmaceutical company, Hovid's subsidiary, Carotech was awarded “Certificate of Excellence” in the category of Export Excellence for Merchandise by the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). The Certificate was presented by the Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tan Sri Dato’ Hj. Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin at the 2008 Industry Excellence Awards ceremony held on March 12, at the One World Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The Industry Excellence Award aims to honor Malaysian exporters that have performed exceptionally well in the global marketplace. Carotech was evaluated for criteria under the Export Excellence for Merchandise, such as Export Performance, Market Penetration, Product Development, Market Operation, Reduced usage of imported components, Recognition Received and Social Contribution.

Carotech is the only GMP-certified manufacturing company for natural full spectrum tocotrienol complex (Tocomin), natural mixed carotenoids (Caromin), phytosterol complex (Stelessterol) and high quality refined and molecularly distilled palm methyl ester (CaroDiesel) from virgin crude palm oil through a unique and patented molecular distillation process. Carotech started production of these products in 1995 and has since marketed them worldwide for applications in dietary supplements, functional food and beverage, as well as personal care products industries.

Understanding the unique benefits of tocotrienol offered to human health (such as reversing arterial blockage, lowering cholesterol, and more), Carotech’s Managing Director Mr David Ho, has continuously engaged in rigorous clinical research of tocotrienol in collaboration with renowned research institutions locally and overseas.

Carotech has also been exporting B100 refined and molecularly distilled palm methyl ester for biodiesel application (CaroDiesel). CaroDiesel is highly sought after due to its remarkably high methyl ester content (99 percent minimum) which exceeds both EN14214 and ASTM standards (96.5 percent minimum).

“We are proud to be recognized in our efforts as a Malaysian company contributing to the big picture of Malaysian Exports. Now with sales offices in both US and UK, Carotech will continue to develop and expand our markets for these unique phytonutrients especially Tocomin natural full spectrum palm tocotrienol complex) and CaroDiesel palm methyl ester for biodiesel application.” said Mr David Ho.
